UTCC Confirmed: 500-horsepower, K-swapped (and DCT-equipped) BRZ

How to make that most track-focused BRZ, the tS, even more competitive? For Kameron Newman, the answer was to swap in a Honda K20 engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission from an E92 BMW M3.

“My goal was to build a ‘poor man’s Porsche,” Kameron says, adding that, “on the high boost map,” the BRZ is capable of over 500 horsepower.

To get the engine, transmission and car to play nice, Kameron put a Haltech R3 in charge of the engine, while a Canformance CANTCU controls the transmission. A custom-made circuit board connects the R3 to the factory ECU, which plugs into the factory Subaru engine connector via a custom wiring harness.

The Subaru sits on a set of Apex wheels wrapped in Bridgestone RE-71RS tires, while the suspension comprises of Racecomp coil-overs and adjustable arms with spherical bushings.

And there’s more to come, with Kameron currently working on an improved aero setup “capable of handling over 1000 pounds of downforce.”

500 horsepower? 1000 pounds of downforce? A lot of big numbers, for sure, but we’ll see if they’re enough to claim victory in our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.

Our annual search for the fastest track machine on four wheels, taking place at Eagles Canyon Raceway on October 22, welcomes any and all competitors–so long as both car and driver can pass a safety inspection. If you can meet those simple requirements, enter today.

The ultra-fast track machines don’t end there, however, as we’ll be sharing the weekend with the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge.

The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Grassroots Motorsports in association with WilwoodVitour TireCRC IndustriesRed Line Oil and Racetech, with trophies from BimmerWorldNine Lives RacingFalken TireVbox Motorsport and American Muscle.
