The wildest part about this Chevy truck? No, it’s not the LS3 V8, T56 transmission, Corvette front suspension, full roll cage or even the extensive use of aluminum and fiberglass throughout the build.
What makes this truck truly unique is the fact that its driver, Francis Marchand, frequently drives it on the street.
“I tow my boat with the truck,” Marchand tells us, adding that “my truck can be daily driven or [driven] anywhere in the country.”
And it’s certainly been “anywhere in the country,” having competed at tracks including Daytona, Summit Point, VIR, Lime Rock, Las Vegas Motorsport Park and the late PittRace.
But is it fast? Despite its various creature comforts like air conditioning, leather interior and a sound system, the truck “still embarrasses Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs on the track,” Marchand says. “Even Teslas have a hard time keeping up with this truck.”
So, this might not be a car at all, but that just makes it an even more compelling entry into our search for the fastest track machine on four wheels, the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports, this year taking place at Eagles Canyon Raceway on October 22.
Car? Truck? Something else entirely? All that’s required to compete is that both vehicle and driver pass a safety inspection. If you can do that, register today.
Better still, our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge shares the weekend with the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge. (The more the merrier, right?)
The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Grassroots Motorsports in association with Wilwood, Vitour Tire, CRC Industries, Red Line Oil and Racetech, with trophies from BimmerWorld, Nine Lives Racing, Falken Tire, Vbox Motorsport and American Muscle.
