#FastFriday: A Subaru BRZ track car that prioritizes simplicity

Beauty can often be found in simplicity. Or, as is the case with Andres Salinas’ Subaru BRZ, there could be big prizes to be found there, too.

Currently configured to compete in the OnGrid Time Attack series, the BRZ is a “back to basics build,” says Andres, that's competitive on track, low on consumables, highly reliable and enjoyable to drive regardless of skill level.

The not-so-secret formula? Andres is kind enough to share a list of modifications, which includes Nitron coil-overs, an OS Giken differential, AP Racing brakes, 17x9.5-inch Apex wheels wrapped in Bridgestone RE-71RS tires, “a bunch of Cusco chassis braces,” a Zebulon rear wing as well as intake and exhaust components from HKS.

A straightforward approach to building a track car, yes, but is it enough to secure the title of Ultimate Track Car?

September 18-21, Andres’s BRZ will join some of the fastest cars in the country at Pennsylvania's Pitt Race to compete in our annual search for the fastest track machine on four wheels, the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.

What’s eligible to compete? Any car and driver that can pass a safety inspection. If you meet those requirements, enter your car today. What sort of machinery has already entered? See for yourself.

The 2025 UTCC will once again be held alongside the SCCA Time Trials Nationals.

The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Grassroots Motorsports and fueled by Sunoco, in association with WilwoodVitour TireCRC IndustriesVbox Motorsport and Red Line Oil, with trophies from BimmerWorldNine Lives Racing and Falken Tire.
