Yes, we do call our annual search for the fastest track machine on four wheels the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports, but that doesn’t mean trucks can’t compete.
Case in point? Rick Hoback’s Nissan Frontier. Why a truck? “I don't like normal,” Rick says “and I don't like easy, but I like fast.”
Us too, Rick. Us too.
While the complete catalog of modifications and upgrades is too long to list here, we’ll pick out a few favorites.
For starters, gone is the original engine, replaced with a de-stroked and supercharged LS3 engine good for over 550 horsepower and backed by a six-speed manual transmission.
Other highlights include a hand-built oil pan, billet flywheel, “massive” aluminum driveshaft, BMW ABS, three-way adjustable dampers, eight-point roll cage, custom independent rear suspension and a Pathfinder R200 differential re-geared to 3.69:1 and fitted with a KAAZ 1.5 Way Clutch Type limited-slip.
See this Nissan Frontier compete against some of the fastest track cars around at our Ultimate Track Car Challenge, September 18-21 at Pitt Race.
