The best things in life are free. We know this because Janet Jackson said so herself in her 1992 duet with Luther Vandross, “The Best Things In Life Are Free.”
So, imagine how great it must have been when Rodney Prouty acquired this 1976 Camaro for the low price of free.
The catch? Oh, yeah, it was “very rusty,” Rodney tells us, “so I cut out the floors and patched them.” A roll cage and engine bay bars followed soon after, as did a pair of wide wheels wrapped in 315 tires that were already lying around the shop.
Then, Rodney set a direction to build the rest of the car to accommodate the wheels–with leftovers and scrap metal, of course.
“It’s what 98% of your readers would build,” he adds, “almost no budget, leftover parts and grassroots engineering, and [it] will be the fastest car there.”
Time will tell just how true that claim is, as Rodney and this Camaro will compete against some of the fastest cars in the country in our annual search for the fastest track machine on four wheels, the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.
Who and what is eligible to contend for the title? Virtually anything, so long as both car and driver pass a safety inspection–so if that’s something you can meet, enter today.
